Question by kaliloab: Will Tricare Prime cover the testing for Dyslexia?
My daughter needs to be tested for Dyslexia. I keep reading that Tricare Prime will not cover it. Yes I understand that there is “treatment” for Dyslexia but she still needs to be tested to see if she has it or not. Her teacher, me, my parents have all discussed this and decided it would be a good idea because of all the difficulties she has had. She is also getting screened through the school district to determine if they will further evaluate her but they do not specifically test for Dyslexia.

I went through something similar with my daughter. You will need to go through her PCM. Your PCM will have to put a referral in to a child psychologist who will do the initial testing. If the psychologist feels that there is indeed a chance your daughter has dyslexia then she will contact your PCM and another referral will be given to have your daughter tested by specialists for dyslexia.
As for the testing in schools. If it is a DOD school then you will have to go through the teacher to set up a CSC (Case Study Committee). They will have 45 days from the time the teacher requests it to have an initial meeting with the parents, teacher, counselor, and the committee. Based on those findings they can either deny testing or approve testing. If testing is approved, then you will sign papers and they have 90 school days to complete the testing and have the reports ready. Then they will hold another meeting to find if your child has eligibility.
With the CSC their testing. They do a broad test. It doesn’t get into detail at all. That’s why its best to just skip them and go directly to a civilian testing. They (civilian) will be more in depth and pin point the exact cause (whether its a learning disability or dyslexia.) At what point you take the report to the school, and they will have to set up an IEP (Individual Education Plan) meeting. They are required by law to make exceptions for your daughter based on that.
